Hunting commission

The huntingcommission organizes a large number of events where the huntingwork with the Weimaraner is standing central. The organisation contains 3 parts of trainings "Fieldtraining" and "Bloodtracking and drag trail", no Obdience and Retrieving trainings, because everywhere in our country by the compartments from the "Royal Dutch Hunting Association" this training will be given.

The second part are our own tests which are based on and extracted from the German hunting tests, but considering the Dutch law and have a good purpose for the use at hunting and / or judge the hunt talent. These tests will bee judged by our own judges, who judge on such a manner that the work of the dog stands in previous and not the handle or the expertness has the hunter by handling the dog. Everyone with a normal Weimaraner and with a little bit trained dog can acquire our tests. Now it isn't allowed anymore to take part at the German tests without a hunting certificate, our own test will be more and more important for the breeding.
A difference with our tests and the German test is that our tests are build up in:
- Fieldwork,
- Obedience and Retrieve,
- Blood tracking and drag trail,
- Game retrieve
- The talent test for Defence impulse.
Another difference is that the tests aren't age bound and more times can be passed through.
A Weimaraner who get all the 5 tests is a perfect hunting dog and has more then a VGP and Ms.

Talent test Field work
In the talent test for fieldwork they judge the next parts:
- how the dog finds the wild an points,
- how they use their nose, short or far is the head position high or low or with the nose on the ground,
- manner of searching does he takes much field or almost no field,
- pointing or totally not pointing,
- pointing with a high head position or a low head position,
- How is the co-orporation with the hunter, obedience what will be judged different.

Pointing with a low headPointing with a high head

Obedience and retrieve test,
The Obedience and retrieve test is nothing else then learning the dog a few tricks to have control on him / her. The grade of obedience will be measured for the use in the hunting after the shot, like:
- Can the dog be alone in the hunting field.
- Can he follow the hunter without the leash.
- Can he sit and stay calm during a floating hunt.
- Can he retrieve out of the water, a lost fetch, a marked fetch (which is important on the duck and pigeon migration )
This version is totally different then the KNJV-test mark fetch, with us the dog is allowed to use his nose to find the wild, because in the real hunt is it the most important that the wild which has been shot comes in.

Blood tracking and drag trail test.
At this test they judge if the dog finds wild that has been shot, and if it is small wild, the dog is prepared to bring that to the hunter. The test has 3 parts a hair wild drag trail, a feather wild drag trail and a blood track. The blood track will be worked out on a long leash the "blood track" leash. Not as in America the Tracking dog harness what will be used by working out feet tracks. What we don't know for hunting dogs in Europe (tracing from abscond slaves). The intention from the blood track is to find big game (like= deer or pig). The drag trails are to learn the dog to find small game, the dog will do it without a leash, and the hunter will wait till the dog is back with the game. The dog has to take the track fast. While with the blood track on the "blood track" leash the hunter walks with the dog to the lost game. There is concentration needed to find the drops of blood en so to work out the track.

Game retrieve test
Also this test has 3 parts and has as purpose the willing of the dog to fetch game, always a fox.
The retrieving of a fox over or out of an obstacle, the dog has to carry the fox, a fox is not that easy to carry as a duck or a pheasant.
Trail from the fox, the hunter can not influence the dog to retrieve the fox at the end of the trail. So it has to be the willing of the dog to take the stinking fox in his mouth and bring back to the hunter.
A lost retrieve from the fox, the hunter and dog both do not know where the fox is laying. Also here is it the willing of the dog to retrieve the fox.

Talent test for defence impulse.
In this test will be judged: the willing of the dog to defence his owner.
This test will mostly be done at the end of the Obedience and retrieve test. And will be done at voluntary base of the owner of the dog. The attacker always is an official certificated helper who also judge.

The hunting dog commission also organizes, next to the 5 mutual tests, official trials. The difference between these tests and official trials, where always can be win a champions title, is in football terms the amateurs and the professionals. The manner of judging is totally different from the judging at the German tests. The dogs from the different "continental II" breeds fight in competitions and will be compared. The norms are very high and the endurance and the own criticism from the hunter must be high. The hunting dog commission organizes 4 from these field trials in a year, 2 in the spring (National Champions Spring trial) and 2 in the autumn (National Champions Autumn trial). Match made or apart from it can there also be a youth trial. Where the demands for the dog are lower then in an Open Class trial with champions title. So is the dog allowed to follow a hare, in the Open Class "you are the hare", you will be disqualified. Staying on the place for the up flying bird is not necessary in the Youth Class. And in the autumn is it not needed to retrieve. If the dog wants to win a qualification then he has to point as well in the Youth Class as Open Class and take enough field. For example: If the dog is just of the leash and points there isn't a qualification yet, there has to be shown that the dog also takes enough field.
The difference of the Spring- and Autumn Trials in the Youth and Open Class:
In the Youth class not taking enough fields, pointing on a pheasant and / or partridge and let see to have a good search manner, show that the dog wants to find the birds, so he wants to hunt. Obedience in the field is minimal, the judges want to see "free" dogs.
Difference to the Open Class, the dog has to be under control. When they run after hare they only may run 50 metres. They have to take field. They have to show that they are staying by flying up of the bird. In the spring only partridges are counting, pheasants aren't seen as point, BUT thrust out a pheasant will be judged as disadvantage. In the autumn the birds will be shot and has the dog to stay by shooting and falling from the bird, and after that the dog has to retrieve the bird.

"Royal Dutch Hunting Association" speciality hunting dog test, or the WSH-KNJV-hunting dog test.
Learn you dog 5 tricks and he can get his C-certificate, Learn you dog 8 tricks and he can get his B-certificate, Learn you dog 10 tricks and he can get his A-certificate. But it isn't that simple of course.

The C-Certificate:

Follow the owner with and without the leash:
The dog has to follow his owner over a distance of 40 metres. This must be done on the leash and without.

During the throwing of the duck a shot will be lost. The thrower with gun will stay on the place at the test. The shot will be lost on the moment that the duck is on his highest position.
The judge shall tell the hunter from which place he can set in the dog and also where the dog has to bring the duck. The place which will be chosen will be 3 metres from the waterside (depending on the local circumstances)
The dog is allowed, on command of the judge, to retrieve the duck after one second that the duck has fallen.

The B-Certificate, first you have to pass through the 5 parts of the C good enough score.

Lost fetch at land
The dog has tot retrieve a duck, without a leash, thrown away in an overgrow.
The thrower has to throw the duck from a place that the dog can't see him. But the duck has to fall about 40 metres from the place that the dog will be set of.
The place where the duck falls has to be chosen on such way that the dog and hunter can not see each other as the dog works by the place where the duck has fallen.
The preference goes out for this test that the place where from the dog will be send out forward is full on the wind
If it is possible should the test be arranged that the hunter and dog do not see each other after 5 metres from the start of the test. In no circumstances is it allowed that the hunter and dog can see each other in the last 10 metres from the fall place of the duck.
In some terrains is it necessary to place a curtain.
The judge shall tell the hunter from which place he can set in the dog and also where the dog has to bring the duck. The hunter isn't allowed to leave that place for the whole test unless the judge commends different.

Marked retrieve over land
The dog has to retrieve, without his leash, a for him visible thrown away duck.
The thrower has to throw the duck perpendicular on the direction where the dog comes from. He throws the duck with a large bow. The place where the duck has to land must be around the 60 metres from the dog.
The place has to be chosen on such way that the dog can't see the duck (by preference low vegetation)
After the hunter has informed the judge that he is ready, the judge gives the thrower with gun the start signal.
The thrower will remain at the same place for the whole test.

Retrieving over deep water
The dog has to retrieve, without his leash, on the other side of wide deep water a thrown away duck.
The water has to be at least 10 metres wide and maximal 40 metres wide, and has to be just as deep that the dog has to swim to reach the other side.
The thrower has to throw the duck in such way that the dog will not see it. And on such place, depending on the wide of the water, that it will fall about 10 to 40 metres from the waterside.
The thrower moves back and on such a place that his presence and his track works stimulate or obstruct as less as possible
The place where the duck falls must be chosen at such way that the dog can't see the duck (at least low vegetation).
The preference goes out for this test that the place where from the dog will be send out forward into the water is full on the wind
The judge shall tell the hunter from which place he can set in the dog and also where the dog has to bring the duck. The place which will be chosen will be 3 metres from the waterside (depending on the local circumstances)

The A-Certificate, first you have to pass through the 8 parts of the C and B good enough score.

Conduct fetch over land
The dog has to retrieve, without his leash, wood pigeon after the hunter has leaded him to the fall place.
The hunter may not leave the indicated place more then 5 metres during the whole test. The test will be placed out in an overseeing terrain. That will say that a dog which doesn't go far from the ideal route will be visible for the hunter the whole test.
The thrower has to throw the pigeon on a moment that the dog can't see it. And has to be thrown at such place that the dog can't see it and on a place where the dog naturally shall not search for the pigeon.
The thrower moves back and on such a place that his presence and his track works stimulate or obstruct as less as possible.
The fall place has to be marked as natural as possible.
The dog has to be leaded from an as natural as possible mark point to the fall place.
This place has to be about 100 metres from the hunter and about 50 metres from the fall place. And has to be chosen that there is needed a sizable direction amendment to reach the fall place.
The hunter has to stop his dog in a near surrounding from that point, and after that the judges has given permission, send the dog further to the fall place. The judges will give that permission when the dog by their judgement has reached that place enough.
The preference goes out for this test that the place where from the dog will be send out forward is full on the wind, and so that the fall place is down winds from the here above intended point is.

Retrieve from a far runner over wide water.
The dog has to retrieve, without his leash, on the other side of wide deep water a far trailed away duck. He has to make use of the trail
The water has to be at least 15 metres wide, and has to be just as deep that the dog has to swim to reach the other side.
From the other side will be made a trail that, depended from the difficultly from the water and the disposition of the terrain, at least will be 150 metres and maximal 300 metres long. At the end of the trail will be a duck.
The thrower and if it is necessary the judges move back and on such a place that his presence and his track works stimulate or obstruct as less as possible.
The dog isn't allowed to see the tracking of the trail.
The preference of setting out this is this test it that the wind comes from, changed between perpendicular from behind and perpendicular on the, where the dog has to be send over the water.
The beginning of the track will be made as natural as possible and be announced to the hunter. The hunter may lead the dog to the beginning of the trail. As the dog has supposed the trail is it forbidden for the hunter to give further commends.
The preference from the terrain circumstances on the other side goes out that if the dog has the trail will be out of the sight of the hunter.
