Why this combination?

After looking at the pedigrees and results of both parents it may also be interesting to know how we imported Felicia and of course why we chose this breeding.

When searching for a bitch, that we would be able to breed with in the future, there were several things that were important for us.

Hunting instinct, health and conformation to the breed standard.
With those criteria we came to Hot Shoot’s kennel in Denmark. We had been there before and kind of knew what to expect.
For Karin, who is also a Weimaraner conformation judge, hunting instinct and health are also very important. Her foundation bitch Frida (Felicia's grandma) has proven herself more than once at field trials. And Frida is still walking around and in good health. If it were up to Frida she would still hunt. Also Chaos is walking around and she is in good health too.
A lot of descendants bred by Hot Shoot’s Kennel perform very well at different hunting trials. The brother of Chaos is one of the highest qualified Weimaraners in Denmark.
Many Hot Shoot’s dogs have field qualifications or retrieving trial qualifications but there are also some that have passed the German tests as well with good results.

With our search for a new bitch we wanted to have new blood for the Netherlands. Felicia's mom, Chaos, comes from lines that have been bred in Denmark for generations. And the Danish lines have not been exported much to other countries. This is a big reason for the new blood. Felicia's dad comes from known and proven German lines and he has done the VJP, HZP and VGP.

But why did we search so far away for a suitable stud for Felicia ?
For a while we have been studying the American Field lines. The majority of Weimaraners bred in America are bred for the showring, but there also is a small population that is bred purely for working purposes. And in this small group of dogs we have been looking closely at possible lines for us. Because these dogs are bred for generations now and only for the field they are very eager to work in the field. And because of the selection criteria they also perform very well at other trials. This has been proven by Hunter who in addition to a CACT on a watertrial has now also made a Czech VGP with a first prize! In addition a lot of these dogs have a very friendly character.
Healthwise these lines are very good too. They will perform even if they are very old. 2 siblings of Hunter's dad have acquired the Field champion title earlier this year. And a third from this litter has recently passed the NAVHDA UT test. The NAVHDA tests are similar to the German tests. The UT (Utility) has a level between the HZP and the VGP. All that at the age of 11!

This is the short version of the story of Felicia and Hunter.
There is obviously more to tell. Ofcourse you are welcome to contact us to find out more.

But what do the titles in the pedigree mean?

In the pedigree of Felicia’s mother’s side you will find several titles.
A few of the most important are MARKPR and DKCH. DKCH is Danish Show Champion, You can only get this when you have a first prize at an open class fieldtrial.
In Denmark they don't separate the dogs in the groups Continental I and II as we do here. So they have to compete with the German Shorthaired Pointers.
MARKPR is a title that they get after they have received a qualification (a prize) at a fieldtrial. This shows that a lot dogs in her pedigree have received a qualification.

Also in Hunter's pedigree there are a lot of titles. To sum up a few of these, FCH = Field Champion, AFCH = Amateur Field Champion, NAFCH = National Amateur Field Champion, NFCH = National Field Champion. And behind the registered name ther are also some titles. Also the American Weimaranerclub (WCA) awards some titles. For example the Retrieving Dog and Shooting Dog titles. These come in different levels. Retrieving Dog: NRD, RD, RDX  and Shooting Dog: NSD, SD, SDX. And then there are also titles given by the American Kennelclub as the JH (Junior Hunter), SH (Senior Hunter) and the highest level MH (Master Hunter)

This explanation of the titles hopefully gives a better picture of the results of the ancestors of both Felicia and Hunter. And also the qualities that we hope to get from this combination!
